Wine About Wine Which Is Haram In Islam

In the name of ALLAH, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saw) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

This is proved from our Prophet (Blessings and peace of ALLAH be upon him), that he said: “The wine is mother of all evils”. This Hadith clearly indicates that wine is a main source of wickedness. The disadvantages of wine to individuals and societies are very clear. This is well known to everybody. Individuals may suffer from many dangers related to wine consumption:
1 - Damage of intellect.
2 - Weakness of body.
3- Waste of money.
4- Becoming far from the Almighty’s mercy.

In addition, the wine causes many forms of harm to social life. Here are some of them:
1- Disintegration of the family.
2- Severance of relations as a result of many conflicts due to wine consumption.
3- Negligence of spousal and children’s rights.
4- Disturbance of peace.
5- Spreading of crimes and obscenity.

We are also advised that if we avoid things that harm us we also prevent harm we may cause to others when... the Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “There is no harm, no reciprocal harming”. ALLAH knows best.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verses 90-91:

O you who have believed!   ‘Khamr’ (all types of intoxicants),  games of chance,  idols,  and divining arrows are all abominable works of the Shaytaan;  therefore,  stay (far) away from these so that you may attain success.   Indeed,  the Shaytaan seeks to sow enmity and hatred among you by means of ‘khamr’ (intoxicants) and gambling,  and to prevent you from the Remembrance of Allah and from Salaah.   Will you not, then,  abstain from these things?

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 3672         Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Abbas
The Messenger of Allah (saws) said:

“Every intoxicant is ‘khamr’ (alcohol, wine, beer, drugs, etc.), and every ‘khamr’ is haraam.”

Maybe you will ask…but wine is made of grapes so why is it haram?

Although the fruit grape is lawful in its essence, when the extract of this fruit is treated and fermented, it produces a drink which intoxicates…..and every type of drink (or substance) which intoxicates when consumed is absolutely prohibited for the believers who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 4477     Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah.  The Prophet (saws) said,

"He who believes in Allah and the Last Day must not sit at a cloth (table or gathering) where wine is being circulated."

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 3765         Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar

The Messenger of Allah (saws) forbade the sitting at a cloth (table or gathering) on which wine is drunk.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws),   one can be assured of never ever being misled;   but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Effects

The effects of alcohol vary depending on a number of factors including:

type and quantity of alcohol consumed
age, weight and gender
body chemistry
food in the stomach
drinking experience
situation in which drinking occurs

SHORT-TERM EFFECTS

Although it varies between individuals, there is a relationship between the concentration of alcohol in the blood (Blood Alcohol Concentration - BAC) and its effects. Mild euphoria and stimulation of behaviour occur initially with minor effects on performance which become more pronounced as the concentration of alcohol rises. Unfortunately, people often believe they are performing better rather than much worse.

In a person of average build, one standard drink will raise the BAC by approximately 0.01-0.03% in an hour, and as a rough guide it will be broken down at a similar rate, i.e. one standard drink per hour.

INTOXICATION RISKS

Intoxication is the most common cause of alcohol-related problems, leading to injuries and premature deaths. As a result, intoxication accounts for two-thirds of the years of life lost from drinking. Alcohol is responsible for:

30% of road accidents
44% of fire injuries
34% of falls and drownings
16% of child abuse cases
12% of suicides
10% of industrial accidents

As well as deaths, short-term effects of alcohol result in illness and loss of work productivity (e.g. hangovers, drink driving offences). In addition, alcohol contributes to criminal behaviour - in Australia over 70% of prisoners convicted of violent assaults have drunk alcohol before committing the offence and more than 40% of domestic violence incidents involve alcohol.

LONG-TERM EFFECTS

Each year approximately 3000 people die in Australia as a result of excessive alcohol consumption and around 65 000 people are hospitalised. Long-term excessive alcohol consumption is associated with:

heart damage
high blood pressure and stroke
liver damage
cancers of the digestive system
other digestive system disorders (e.g. stomach ulcers)
sexual impotence and reduced fertility
increasing risk of breast cancer
sleeping difficulties
brain damage with mood and personality changes
concentration and memory problems

In addition to health problems, alcohol also impacts on relationships, finances, work, and may result in legal problems.

TOLERANCE AND DEPENDENCE

A regular drinker may develop tolerance and dependence. Tolerance means that they feel less effect than they used to with the same amount of alcohol. Dependence means that the alcohol becomes central in their life - a lot of time is spent thinking about alcohol, obtaining it, consuming it and recovering from it. The person will find it difficult to stop drinking or to control the amount consumed.

Withdrawal

Someone who is physically dependent on alcohol will experience withdrawal symptoms when they stop drinking or substantially reduce their intake. Symptoms usually commence 6-24 hours after the last drink, last for about 5 days and include:
1.    Tremor
2.    Nausea
3.    Anxiety
4.    Depression
5.    Sweating
6.    Headache
7.    difficulty sleeping (may last several weeks)
Alcohol withdrawal can be very dangerous; people drinking more than 8 standard drinks a day are advised to discuss a decision to stop drinking with a doctor as medical treatment may be required to prevent complications.

THE MOTHER OF EVERY EVIL

One day, as he came out from his mosque, the Prophet Muhammad, may God send praises upon him, noticed his cousin and son-in-law, Ali b. Abi Talib, visibly upset.  When the concerned Prophet asked Ali what was troubling him, Ali simply pointed to the bloody carcass of his dearly cherished camel - no ordinary camel, but the war-weathered camel that Ali would mount in his valiant defense of the Prophet and Islam on the battlefield.  Ali told the Prophet that one of their uncles had been responsible for the unsanctioned slaughter of his animal, and so the Prophet went to ascertain his (i.e. the uncle's) side of the story.
Entering in the presence of his uncle, the Prophet found him drunk with wine.  Upon seeing the displeasure in his nephew's face, the uncle knew at once, despite his intoxication, that the Prophet had come to question him about Ali's beast of war.  With nothing good to say in his defense, the guilt-ridden, drunken uncle blurted out to his nephew: "You and your father are my slaves!" The Prophet's only response to the blasphemous outburst was to exclaim: "Truly, alcohol is the mother of every evil!"
And so, from the biography of the Prophet Muhammad we learn a weighty lesson as regards the colossal and evil consequences of alcoholic drink.  Any one of the alcohol-inspired acts in this short episode from the blessed Prophet's life would suffice the reader as an admonition: whether it be the culling of Ali's camel, the drunken state of an uncle of a Prophet of God - let alone His last and final messenger to mankind - or the wicked insult he spewed out against him and his own deceased brother, who was no less than the father of the Prophet of God.  How much worse then when we consider all these crimes together?  Not to mention the many evils indirectly resulting from the uncle's consumption of the alcohol, such as the loss to the Muslim community of one its battle-hardened steeds of war, or the pain, anguish and, perhaps, embarrassment that Muhammad must have felt at this tragic family affair.  No doubt, it was precisely because the Prophet recognized that it was the alcohol that gave birth to and nurtured all these foul sins that he denounced it as: "the mother of every evil!"
Hence, we find Islam completely forbidding the consumption of alcohol, whether in large or small amounts.  The Prophet Muhammad said:
"If a large amount of anything causes intoxication, a small amount of it is also prohibited." [Narrated by the Companion, Jaabir, and recorded in the collections of Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud & Ibn Majah].

Now let’s me bring  2 stories regarding about this topic…

A man argues that wine should be halal

A man came to Iyas Ibn Mu'awiyah, a Muslim judge famous for his wisdom, and the following conversation took place between them:

Man: What is the Islamic ruling regarding wine?

Judge: It is Haram (Forbidden).

Man: How about water?

Judge: It is Halal (Permissible).

Man: How about dates and grapes?

Judge: They are Halal.

Man: Why is it that all these ingredients are Halal, and yet when you combine them, they become Haram?

The judge looked at the man and said: If I hit you with this handful of dirt, do you think it would hurt you?

Man: It would not.

Judge: How about if I hit you with this handful of straw?

Man: It would not hurt me.

Judge: How about a handful of water?

Man: It surely would not hurt me.

Judge: How about if I mix them, and let them dry to become a brick, and then hit you with it, would it hurt you?

Man: It would hurt me and might even kill me!

Judge: The same reasoning applies to what you asked me!!

One more story about the harmful wine…let’s we read together

Where sin, drinking intoxicating beverages, adultery or murder. That's the conundrum at the core sermon Ustman Khalifah bin Affan ra as narrated by Az-Zuhriy, Ustman sermons that reminded people to be careful to drink wine. For an intoxicating beverage as the base of the heinous act and the source of all sin.In the past life of a religious expert who is always keen worship to the mosque, said the Caliph Ustman sermon...

One day a pious man was acquainted with a beautiful woman.  Because I had fell in love, he went along when told to choose between three requests, about disobedience. First drink wine, second adultery and third kill the baby. Thinking drink wine sin is smaller than the other two options put forward her idol, the pious man was then choose to drink wine.  But what happens, with a heady wine that he even violated two other crimes. Drunk and forget ourselves, the man had committed adultery with a prostitute and kill the baby at her side.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Story about Pompeii Story

Above is a fresco representing the luxury and prosperity of the city of Pompeii before the disaster. Down are petrified corpses unearthed in excavations made in Pompeii.

After the disaster

The Al-Quran tells us in the following verse that there is no change in Allah's Law;
"They swore their strongest oaths by Allah that if a Warner came to them, they would follow his guidance better then any (other) of the peoples; but when a Warner came to them, it only increased their flight (from righteousness) - on account of their arrogance in the land and their plotting of evil, but the plotting of evil will hem in only the authors thereof. Now are they looking for the way the ancients were dealt with? But no change wilt thou find in Allah's way (of dealing): no turning off wilt thou find in Allah's way (of dealing)." [Al-Qur'an 35:42-43]

Yes, no change will be found in Allah's way (rules). Everybody, who stands against his laws and rebels against Him, is subject to the same divine law. Pompeii, the symbol of the degeneration of the Roman Empire was also involved in sexual perversity. Its end was similar to that of the people of Lut.
The destruction of Pompeii came by means of the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius.

The volcano Vesuvias is the symbol of Italy, primarily the city of Naples. Remaining silent for the last two millennia, Vesuvias is named the ‘mount of warning'. It is not without cause that Vesuvias is known as such. The disaster that befell Sodom and Gomorrah is very similar to the disaster that destroyed Pompeii.

To the right of Vesuvias lies Naples and to the east lies Pompeii. The lava and ash of a huge volcanic eruption, that happened two millennia ago, caught the inhabitants of that city. The disaster happened so suddenly that everything in the town was caught in the middle of everyday life and remains today exactly as it was two millennia ago. It is as if the time had been frozen.

The removal of Pompeii from the face of the earth by such a disaster was not purposeless. The historical records show that the city was exactly a center of dissipation and perversity. The city was marked by a rise in prostitution to such an extent that eventually the number of brothels was not known. Male organs in their original sizes were hung on the doors of brothels. According to tradition, rooted in Mithraic belief, sexual organs and sexual intercourse should not be hidden but displayed openly. (Archeologists first excavated the city during Victorian times, shocked by the open sexual perversity of the people, a secret museum was formed to house some of the artifacts found. These included many falic symbols, images of homosexuality and even bestiality, to be viewed only by a select ‘League of Gentlemen' who Victorian society deemed to be capable of dealing with the images.)
But the lava of Vesuvias wiped the whole city off the map in a single moment. The most interesting aspect of the event is that nobody escaped despite the terrible violence of the eruption of Vesuvias. It is almost like they did not even notice the catastrophe, as if they were charmed. A family eating their meal were petrified right at that moment. Numerous petrified couples were found in the act of intercourse. The most interesting thing is that there were couples of the same sex and couples of young boys and young girls. The faces of some of the petrified human corpses unearthed from Pompeii were unharmed. The general expression on those faces was bewilderment.

Here lies the most incomprehensible aspect of the calamity. How did thousands of people wait to be caught by death without seeing and hearing anything?

This aspect of the event shows that the disappearance of Pompeii was similar to the destructive events mentioned in the Al-Quran, because the Al-Quran particularly points to "sudden annihilation" while relating these events. For example, the "inhabitants of the city" described in Surah Yasin died all at once in a single moment. The situation is told as follows in the 29th verse of the Surah:

"It was no more then a single mighty blast, and behold! They were (like ashes) quenched and silent."
In the 31st verse of Surah al-Qamar, again the "instantaneous annihilation" is emphasized when the destruction of Thamud is recounted:

"For we sent against them a single mighty blast, and they became like the dry stubble used by one who pens cattle."
The death of the people of Pompeii took place instantaneously, just as the events recounted in the above verses.

Despite all these, things have not changed much where Pompeii once stood. The districts of Naples where debauchery prevails do not fall short of those licentious districts of Pompeii. The island of Capri is a base where homosexuals and nudists rule. The island of Capri is represented as a "Homosexual Paradise" in tourist commercials. Not only on the island if Capri and in Italy, but in nearly all the world, a similar moral degeneration is at work and people insist on not learning form the awful experience of past peoples.

The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,-  As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks. And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. (Surat al-Qamar:, 33-36)

We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: “Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you?
For ye practise your lusts on men in preference to women : ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.”

But we saved him and his family, except his wife: she was of those who legged behind.
And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): Then see what was the end of those who indulged in sin and crime! (Surat al-Araf: 80-84)

Death about Death

‘Drunk due to approaching death'.

Why is it emphasized as 'drunken'?  Because, when one is approaching death, he will be faced with such a great fear that he would not remember anything else but 'fear of death or own sins'.  Here, I would like to share five things that we will face when we are facing Sakaratul Maut.

Firstly,
A TREMENDOUSLY GREAT PAIN.  The greatest pain is death.  The analogy of the pain is equal to being slashed or stabbed, etc with 300 swords.

Secondly,
WE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE FACE OF THE DEATH ANGEL (Izra-il).  It was mentioned that Izra-il will be visible to our eyes and his appearance depends a whole lot on our way of life.  How we lead our life? The formula is simple ~  If we have done many good deeds, Izra-il will appear pleasant to our eyes. On the other hand, if we have committed too many sins all our life, Izra-il will appear 'stinky and ugly', worse and uglier than all those man-made 'ghost' in the movies.  One ustaz explained further:  Once, Nabi Ibrahim p.b.u.h. requested to see Izra-il just for a short while, and Allah permitted him to do so, he got terribly scared that he said ~ It's so ugly and scary that it should have been enough to punish the sinners (not to mention the upcoming punishment in the grave and in hell).  Wallahu'alam...

Thirdly,
WE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE AND HEAR RAQIB & A'TID VOICE.  What will they say?  This will also depend on our deeds.  Those with good deeds will receive compliments from them and those with sins, will receive curses from them...

Fourthly,
WE WILL SEE OUR 'HOME' IN THE HEREAFTER.  It was mentioned that while facing sakaratul maut, our hijab will be opened and we will be able to see where we will live in eternity, our home in the hefeafter.  Will it be heaven or hell?  Wallahu'alam.  At this moment ladies and gentlemen, it is already too late to repent.  Nauzubillah...

Lastly,
WE WILL FACE A GROUP OF SATAN THAT APPEAR TO DIVERT YOUR AQIDAH FROM ALLAH.  The ustaz mentioned that normally, these syaitan will appear in disguise of people we love or trust the most like our mother, our spouse, or our children OR in disguise of people that we hate most.  We hate them so much that we forget to say 'Lailaha Ilallah' (there isn't any other God than Allah).  To divert our aqidah, syaitan will try their very best to make us say the opposite of Lailaha Ilallah or even agree to them with just a blink of an eye.  Do u see how critical is this stage?  The ustaz explained further.  Close to dying, one will feel thirsty therefore, the satan might also appear in disguise of someone we love with a glass of water.  They will negotiate with you ~  "If u want to drink this, say this ..." (at this point, that ustaz did not finish the syaitan's sentence).  If we fail to battle them (nauzubillah), only Allah knows where we will belong.

In accordance with a hadith that says: "Teach by you (the person who is still alive) to the person who is dying with: La illaha illALLAH."

Reminder:
Death is sudden...

Now I bring you to the great time when Rasulullah saw was facing his death (Tears of Rasulullah saw)

Suddenly, there was a person said salam.  "May I come in?" he asked.  But Fatimah did not allow him to enter the room.
"I'm sorry, my father is ill," said Fatimah turned her body back and closed the door. She went back to her father who had opened his eyes and asked Fatimah, "Who was he, my daughter?".
“I don't know, my father. It was the first time for me to see him," Fatimah said gently.
Then, Rasulullah looked at his daughter with trembled look, as if he wanted to reminisce about every part of her daughter's face.  "Know one thing! He is who erases the temporary pleasure; he is who separates the companionship in the world.

He is the death angel," said Rasulullah .

Fatimah bore the bomb of her cry. The death angel came toward him,  But Rasulullah asked why Jibril did not come along with him.  Then, Jibril was called. Jibril was ready in the sky to welcome the soul of Habibullah and the leader of the earth.
"O Jibril, explain me about my rights in front of ALLAH?" Rasulullah asked with a weakest voice.
"The doors of sky has opened, the angels are waiting for your soul."
"All jannats open widely waiting for you," Jibril said.

But, in fact, those all did not make Rasulullah relieve, his eyes were still full of worry.
"You are not happy to hear this news?" asked Jibril.

"Tell me about the destiny of my people in future?"
"Don't worry, o Rasul ALLAH . I heard ALLAH told me: 'I make jannat haram for every one, except the people of Muhammad are inside it," Jibril said.
It became closer and closer, the time for Malaekat Izrail to do his work.  Slowly, Rasulullah's soul was pulled. It was seemed that the body of Rasulullah was full of sweat; the nerves of his neck became tight.
"Jibril, how pain this sakaratul maut is!"
Rasulullah saw: uttered a groan slowly. Fatimah closed her eyes, Ali sat beside her bow deeply and Jibril turned his face back.
"Am I repugnant to you that you turn your face back o Jibril?" Rasulullah saw: asked to the Deliverer of Wahyu.
"Who is the one who could see the Habibullah in his sakaratul maut," Jibril said.
Not for a while, Rasulullah saw:uttered a groan because of unbearable pain.
"O ALLAH, how greatest is this sakaratul maut. Give me all these pains, don't to my people." The body of Rasulullah saw: became cold, his feet and chest did not move anymore.  His lips vibrated as if he wanted to say something, Ali took his ear close to Rasulullah saw:

"Uushiikum bis shalati, wa maa malakat aimanuku - take care the saalat and take care the weak people among you."

Outside the room, there were cries shouted each other, sahabah held each other. Fatimah closed her face with her hands and, again, Ali :took his ear close to Rasulullah saw: mouth which became bluish.
"Ummatii, ummatii, ummatii?" - "My people, my people, my people."
And the life of the noble man ended.

Inalilla hiwaina ilaihirajiun…

Why are the dogs and pigs unclean or Haram in Islam?

Why does Islam forbid pork and dog, when the pig and dog are one of the creations of ALLAH?

Praise be to ALLAH.

Let me explain first on a few aspects why pig is haram in Islam.

ALLAH has forbidden eating pork in definitive terms. ALLAH says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Say (O Muhammad): I find not in that which has been revealed to me anything forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be Maytah (a dead animal) or blood poured forth (by slaughtering or the like), or the flesh of swine (pork); for that surely, is impure or impious (unlawful) meat (of an animal) which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than ALLAH (or has been slaughtered for idols, or on which ALLAH’s Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering)”
[al-An’aam 6:145]

By the mercy of ALLAH and His kindness towards us, ALLAH has permitted us to eat all good things, and He has not forbidden anything but those that are impure. ALLAH says (interpretation of the meaning):
“…he allows them as lawful At‑Tayyibaat (i.e. all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods), and prohibits them as unlawful Al‑Khabaa’ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods)”
[al-A’raaf 7:157]

We do not doubt for an instant that the pig is a dirty and filthy animal, and that eating it is harmful to man. Moreover it lives on dirt and filth, and it is something that is off-putting to those of a sound nature who refuse to touch it, because eating it is either a cause or a sign of a person’s oddness.

With regard to the physical harm caused by eating pork, modern science has proved a number of things, such as the following:
Pork is regarded as one of the kinds of meat that contain the most cholesterol, an increase of which in the bloodstream leads to an increased likelihood of blocked arteries. The fatty acids in pork are also of an unusual formation, when compared with the fatty acids in other types of food, which makes them more easily absorbed by the body, thus increasing cholesterol levels.

Ok…now let me tell you, pork meat and pork fat contribute to the spread of cancers of the colon, rectum, prostate and blood.  Pork meat and pork fat contribute to obesity and related diseases that are difficult to treat.   Eating pork leads to scabies, allergies and stomach ulcers.

By eating pork causes lung infections which result from tapeworms, lungworms and microbial infections of the lungs.  The most serious danger of eating pork is that pork contains tapeworms which may grow to a length of 2-3 meters. The growth of the eggs of these worms in the human body may lead to insanity and hysteria if they grow in the area of the brain. If they grow in the region of the heart that may lead to high blood pressure and heart attacks. Another kind of worm that is to be found in pork is the trichinosis worm that cannot be killed by cooking, the growth of which in the body may lead to paralysis and skin rashes.

The doctors have confirmed that tapeworm disease is regarded as one of the serious diseases that may result from eating pork. It may develop in the small intestine and after several months may grow into a large worm whose body is composed of a thousand segments, with a length of 4-10 meters, which lives alone in the intestine of the infected person and part of it may appear when he defecates. When the pig swallows and ingests its eggs, they enter the tissues and muscles in the form of larvae sacs containing fluid and the head of the tapeworm. When a person eats infected pork, the larva turns into a complete worm in the intestine. These worms cause weakness and vitamin B12 deficiency, which leads to a specific type of anemia, which may in turn cause nervous problems. In some cases the larvae may reach the brain, causing convulsions, increased pressure within the brain, epilepsy and even paralysis.

Eating pork that is not thoroughly cooked may also lead to trichinosis (infestation with a hair like nematode worm). When these parasites reach the small intestine, three to five days later many larvae appear which enter the intestine and reach the blood, from which they reach most of the tissues of the body. The larvae move to the muscles and form cysts there, and the patient suffers intense muscle pains. The disease may develop into infection of the cerebral membrane and brain, and infections of the heart muscle, lungs, kidneys and nerves. It may be a fatal disease in rare cases.

It is well known that there are some diseases that are unique to humans and are nor shared with any other animals except pigs, such as rheumatism and joint pain. ALLAH indeed spoke the truth when He said (interpretation of the meaning):
“He has forbidden you only the Maytah (dead animals), and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than ALLAH (or has been slaughtered for idols, on which ALLAH’s Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity without willful disobedience nor transgressing due limits, then there is no sin on him. Truly, ALLAH is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful”
[al-Baqarah 2:173]

You know that when Adam (peace be upon him) was expelled from the Garden, it was because he ate from the tree from which ALLAH forbade him to eat. We do not know anything about that tree, and Adam did not need to enquire into the reason why it was forbidden to eat from it. Rather it was sufficient for him, as it is sufficient for us and for every believer, to know that ALLAH has forbidden it.

Why dog is Haram in Islam?

Before going into the subject let us recall that halal and haram in Islam. i.e things which are permissible and forbidden in Islam, are for our goodness.  Allah swt created such haram things for our trial. Today, its proved that all those things which are forbidden or are not permissible, are harmful for us. We as muslims need to have complete faith and submit our will to these commands.
The Prophet Muhammad saw said: "Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for herding, hunting or farming, his reward will decrease by one qiraat every day." (Reported by Muslim)

So you see that it is not permitted to keep a dog unless it is for a purpose, like hunting or guarding property or other uses that are not contrary to the Sharee’ah.

There is another hadith regarding concerned with dog:

Prophet Muhammad saw said: "If a dog licks the vessel of any one of you, let him throw away whatever was in it and wash it seven times." – Muslim

Those were the saying 1400 plus, years ago. But today science proved it to be correct.  Dogs are the carriers of numerous parasites that highly harmful us. They get into our intestines and results in disease. By kissing them, let them lick them or, sleep with them we invite those parasites.  The majority of muslims consider dogs (or at least their saliva) "ritually" unclean. this conclusion is "inferred" from a tradition of the prophet (peace be upon him) which states that if a dog licks a container then the container needs to be washed seven times (five times, three times and once in other variations of the tradition). Another tradition states that angels do not descend in a house where a dog is kept. According to these scholars dogs may only be kept for protection as guard dogs, for sheep herding, etc. but not as pets.

Scholars have agreed that they can be kept under few circumstances like  farmers who keep dogs for guarding and shepherding cattle, etc; people who are  visually challenged who need to keep dogs as guides, hunters who use trained dogs, police who employ trained dogs for investigating crimes, those who need to keep guard dogs, etc.

This does not mean we are to unkind to dogs or hold no compassion.  Prophet Muhammad saw said: "Whilst a man was walking he became very thirsty, so he went down to a well and drank from it. When he came out, he saw a dog panting and biting the soil because of thirst. The man said, ‘He is suffering the same as I suffered,’ so he filled his shoe (with water), came out and let the dog drink until his thirst was quenched. Allah appreciated his good deed and forgave him because of it." The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah, will we be rewarded for how we treat animals?" He said, "In every living thing there is a reward."
